February 26-28, 2021
A group of Floridians interested in growing and crafting gourds got together and formed the Florida Gourd Society, Inc. Actually, we're the Lambda Chapter of the American Gourd Society - one of twenty-three such state chapters in the U.S. having the common goal of enjoying and promoting gourding as a hobby.
There are currently six gourd patch groups in Florida. One patch is located here in Brevard County and meets once a month at the Eau Gallie Library, the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All of the Florida patches come together each year and hold a Gourd Festival.
This year’s Festival will be held at the Azan Shrine Center, located at 1591 West Eau Gallie Blvd., February 26-28, 2021. The event draws gourd crafters from all over the country. There will be vendors supplying craft supplies, gourd growers from farms across the southern states with a huge selection of gourds for sale,Gourd crafting demos, competition area with over 50 categories, 20 classes, and food all weekend. Class registration is open now and can be viewed on our website.
Gourd crafting has grown over the years to become an art form. You will be amazed at the many varieties of gourds and the items created. They’re not just water containers and birdhouses any more. You will see gourds crafted into musical instruments, jewelry, statues, lamps, masks and many more creations. Artist today use wood burning, chip and power carving, weaving, painting and inks and dyes to create their one of a kind pieces of art, some decorative and some functional.
